Group stock costs into categories
Console: Stock → Stock categories. For the stock/accounting lead. These
categories group stock into cost lines; they are different from guest-facing
Menu item categories.
Select Add category, enter its name and description, and review Cost
type. Available types include food, alcohol, non-alcoholic drinks, retail,
takeaway packaging, and operating supplies. Use the classification agreed by the
person responsible for the restaurant's reporting.
Check order and active state, then verify the saved category and assign the
relevant stock items. Changing a classification can change how figures group in
reports; inspect the affected period and items before interpreting totals. A
category label is not a tax classification or proof of accounting treatment.
Deletion makes its stock items uncategorised. Review those assignments before
confirming and correct them through the stock-item editor. Do not delete a
category to conceal unexpected cost figures.
If categories fail to load or a save is uncertain, preserve the existing setup
and reopen before recreating it. Escalate with category, cost type, affected
items/report, and exact error.
