Offer sizes, extras, and meal choices
Console: Menu → Option groups, or an item's Configuration → Option
groups. For the menu lead setting up the choices staff and guests make when
ordering. Groups can be reused across products, so review Attached items
before changing a group already in service.
Choose the right group
| Type | Example | Current selection rule |
|---|
| Add-on | Extra cheese or a side | Optional or required, with a configurable limit |
| Removal | No onion | Optional or required, with a configurable limit |
| Size | Small or large | One required choice |
| Variation | A different bun | One required choice |
| Cooking | How the dish is cooked | One required choice |
| Bundle | Choose the drink in a meal deal | One required choice for that slot |
For Add-on and Removal, use Requirement and How many to choose optional
or required, single or multi select. Set At least and Up to where shown.
An unlimited group permits every option; make sure that is intentional. Size,
Variation, Cooking, and Bundle groups have fixed single-required rules.
Create and attach
- On the library page, select Add group and open the new group to name it,
choose its type, and set its selection rule. Save the settings.
- Under Options, select Add size or Add choice, or Use existing
item. Use Edit on a saved row. Check the name, Option price, Use
default price, and any Included by default or Maximum per item
fields shown. Select Save option. Review the row and its order.
- Open the product's Configuration tab, choose Attach a group…, and
select the saved group. You can also create one there with New group →
Create and attach.
- Drag attached groups into the intended order, then Update the product.
- Test the selection from the relevant location menu. Check required choices,
default picks, maximum selections, and the final price.
Do not preselect more choices than the group's maximum. Check the price of a
size or bundle choice in the full item preview rather than assuming every choice
is a simple surcharge.
Shared edits and copies
Manage group edits the reusable group. Its saved changes affect the other
items attached to it. Detach group removes the attachment from this item; it
does not delete the library group. Save the parent item after changing its
attachments or their order.
Use Copy for this item or Copy group when the rules should diverge. The
copy dialog offers Keep the same stock links, Use another stock item, or
Copy without stock links. Choose deliberately and review any warning about
choices needing stock links by hand. A visually identical copy is not proof that
inventory will be deducted correctly.
The Show only changes setting can hide kept defaults on tickets and show
what was changed. Confirm the kitchen understands the resulting ticket before
using it for a busy service.
Stock and shared choices
In a choice's Edit form, use Set up stock, choose Stock item, and
verify Amount per sale in the displayed unit before Save option. Check
the row's Uses summary afterwards. No stock deduction means no link; a
full recipe should be managed through View recipe or the choice item's
Stock and cost tab. See Wine sizes and stock.
A choice can itself be shared across items. Name and stock changes affect the
items listed by the editor. Cancel and copy the group to change one item only,
or accept Update the shared choice only when that shared change is intended.
Group attachments, choice edits, and group settings have separate saves.
Saving and recovery
The manage dialog warns Save your changes? when closing an unfinished edit.
Use Keep editing, Discard changes, or Save and close as appropriate.
Changes already saved are retained; discarding a later edit does not roll them
back. Reopen and verify both the group and the product's attachment.
If a group was removed from the library, resolve or detach its broken
attachment. If a choice or stock link is missing, check that existing record
before replacing it. Escalate with group, attached product, expected choices,
observed price or rule, and the exact error.
