# Investigate stock movement history

**Console: Stock → Stock levels → Movement Log.** For the stock lead reviewing
why recorded stock changed. Confirm the location and actual product/unit before
using a movement to explain a physical difference.

## Find the movements

Choose **Today**, **7d**, **30d**, or **All**, then use **Type** to narrow the
movement types. Clear filters when an expected entry is missing. Follow
**Previous / Next** and the page indicator; one page is not the complete ledger.

The current date shortcuts and displayed grouping use the browser's local clock.
Check that basis when comparing a restaurant's service day, an overnight
movement, or another time zone. **All** removes the date filter; it does not
remove pagination.

Read time, type, item and notes, reference, **Qty**, and **Value**. Quantity is
signed in the displayed unit: an addition and a removal differ from the stock
balance remaining. Value reflects the movement quantity and recorded unit cost;
an absent cost is shown as missing, not proof the goods had zero value. This is
not a bank payment, supplier-credit settlement or complete profit calculation.

## Follow the source record

**PO**, **Count**, and **Transfer** references link to the corresponding details
where available. Verify actual receipt quantities, approved adjustments or
location transfer states there. Other reference types can appear as text and a
short reference; ask the stock lead/support for the supported source view.

Compare the movement with the actual physical outcome and existing activity
before making a correction. Reading the log or opening a reference changes no
stock. Do not repeat a receipt, count approval, prep finish or waste entry just
because it is missing under the current filters.

## Export carefully

**Export CSV** exports the currently loaded movements, including their displayed
fields and notes. Check the location, selected filters and page with the saved
file. It is not an all-pages export or a complete stock backup. Use the
supported report/export path or ask support when a complete history is required.

Share the minimum records needed through an authorised channel; notes can
contain private operational or personal information. Do not put raw movement
CSVs in public tickets or docs examples.

## Return goods or resolve a discrepancy

**Return to supplier** opens the return workflow; it is not an Undo for the
selected history row. Confirm the actual goods, supplier, quantity, unit and
claim with the authorised purchasing lead. See [Waste and returns](/stock/waste)
and [Supplier credits](/stock/supplier-credits).

For **No matching movements**, clear filters and check the source operation's
saved status and location. For a load error, restore the connection and use the
offered retry; an error is not an empty history. Preserve original records and
investigate a genuine variance rather than inventing a movement to match it.

Escalate with location, product/unit, physical quantity, filters/page, source
reference, observed movement and exact error. Use [Stock levels](/stock/levels),
[Receiving](/stock/receiving), and [Stock counts](/stock/counts) for their
separate operational checks.
