# Check stock levels before ordering

**Console: Stock → Stock levels.** Choose the location first. This is the stock
lead's starting point for deciding what needs ordering today.

## Check opening coverage first

If the page says **Finish opening inventory**, select **Start opening count**
and complete the missing items. An uncounted item is not proof that it is out of
stock. Ordering recommendations remain provisional until opening counts cover
the catalogue at this location.

If there are no stock items, use **Add stock items** first, then run the opening
count. Creating an item does not establish how much is on the shelf.

## Read the three working summaries

| Summary | Use it for |
| ------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| Order today | Items crossing their configured ordering threshold |
| Running low | Items below par that need attention |
| Stock on hand | Recorded quantities and opening coverage |

Open **All stock on hand** to inspect an item's quantity, unit, average cost,
value, and last update. Compare like units: 2 cases and 2 bottles are different
quantities. Check pack conversions before making an adjustment.

The page also highlights count variances, recent supplier price rises, and
unanswered supplier credits. Investigate these records before placing another
order. **Recent activity** opens the movement history for the location.

## Review suggested pars

Use **Suggest Par Levels** to review consumption-based suggestions. The review
shows the observation period, average and peak usage, confidence, and proposed
par, reorder point, and reorder quantity. Select **Apply** only after checking
planned bookings, events, supplier schedules, and unusual sales periods.

No consumption data means there is insufficient evidence for a suggestion; it
does not mean the appropriate par is zero. **Export CSV** exports the displayed
report for review; keep restaurant exports within authorised access.

## Something looks wrong

Check the working location, unit, opening coverage, recent receipts, and
approved counts. A draft purchase order has not received goods, and a submitted
count has not yet been approved. Recount physical stock before changing it. Keep
the item and movement references when escalating to your stock lead.

## Record an authorised quick adjustment

**Staff app: Settings → Stock → Quick adjust.** This requires stock viewing and
adjustment access. Use it for an authorised correction, after checking the
physical stock, units, receipts, waste and approved counts. Use the dedicated
receiving, waste, return or count workflow when that is what happened.

1. Search for the item and select it. Refine the name or SKU if it is absent
from the initial results; the search shows a limited selection.
2. Choose **Add to stock** or **Remove from stock**. Direction is selected
   separately from the number.
3. Enter the non-zero quantity of the change in the displayed packs or base
unit. This is a movement, not a replacement total: if 10 bottles are recorded
and an authorised recount finds 12, the correction is adding 2 bottles.
4. Enter a clear **Reason**, then check the item, direction, quantity and unit
again. Wait for pack choices to load. Changing the selected item or reloading
its pack choices can reset the quantity, so check and re-enter it.
5. Select the matching **Add to stock** or **Remove from stock** action. Verify
**Stock adjusted**, then check the updated level and
   [movement history](/stock/movements).

**Stock changes are paused** means this device must reconnect before saving;
these adjustments are not queued offline. A failed item load is not evidence
that the item is missing. Use the retry path or **Clear search** as appropriate,
and preserve the intended correction.

After an uncertain save, inspect the existing movement before trying again.
Repeating an adjustment can change the quantity twice. Do not use quick adjust
to hide an unexplained loss, replace count approval, or make recorded stock agree
with an unverified assumption.
