# Choose an inventory report

**Console: Reports → Inventory reports.** Confirm the working location and
period before reading the figures. Business-wide valuation, profitability,
month-end, and cross-location views have separate entries under **Reports**.

Check date range, location, units, cost coverage, and estimated labels. A failed
query, incomplete recipe, or uncounted stock is not a healthy zero. Follow the
report's recovery link to its source records and verify corrections there.
Exports contain restaurant operational information; share them only with people
authorised for that business and period.

## Start with Cost Pulse

Open **Overview** to see **Cost Pulse** for the selected location. Use it to
choose the report to investigate, then check the underlying records before
changing prices, staffing, or stock.

1. Confirm the working location.
2. Choose **Week**, **Month**, or **Quarter**. These cover the preceding seven
days, one month, or three months up to the time the range is set; they are
   not calendar-week, calendar-month, or closed accounting-period totals.
3. Choose **All day** or a configured service shift where available. The shift
narrows **Prime cost**, **Food cost**, and **Avg spend**. **Menu** and
**Margin leak** continue to cover the whole selected period.
4. Wait for the figures to finish loading. A period change can briefly retain
the previous figures while the new request completes.
5. Open the relevant tile. Check the period and shift again in the detailed
report: the overview's selections are not carried into that page.

| Tile | What to investigate |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Prime cost | Food and labour relative to net sales. **Incomplete costs** means recipe coverage needs review before using the percentage. |
| Food cost | Actual food cost and its variance. Missing movement costs or insufficient theoretical cost can withhold the value. |
| Menu | **Push** and **Fix** suggestions based on item margin. Review sales volume and recipe coverage in Menu Engineering before acting. |
| Margin leak | Recorded shrink, waste, and comps. **≥** marks a lower bound when uncosted comps are excluded. |
| Avg spend | Average spend per completed order and the order count. Opening this tile takes you to **Sales Mix**. |

If there are no configured service shifts, **Set up shifts** opens location
settings. Set these up to match the restaurant's services with the manager;
changing a report filter does not change rotas or staff shifts.

A dash or **No data** is not zero cost. This overview also uses that treatment
when a report request fails. Open the detailed report to distinguish missing
activity, incomplete costs, and a load error. **No leak** describes recorded,
costed activity; it does not establish that no stock was physically lost.

To recover missing figures, use [stock costs](/reports/stock-costs),
[recipe setup](/stock/recipes), and [stock movements](/stock/movements).
Preserve the location, period, shift, warning, and affected record for the stock
lead.
