# Link wine sizes to stock

**Console: Items → open the wine → Configuration → Option groups → manage its
Size group.** For the menu or stock lead. Stock controls require the stock
feature and the appropriate viewing and management permissions.

Each size choice needs its own stock quantity. The name and price of a choice do
not establish a deduction. For a fictional house wine measured in mL:

| Size sold | Stock item | Amount per sale |
| ------------- | -------------- | --------------: |
| 175 mL glass | House red wine | 175 mL |
| 250 mL glass | House red wine | 250 mL |
| 750 mL bottle | House red wine | 750 mL |

These are setup examples, not a statement about the demo business's saved data.
If the stock item is measured in L, the same amounts are 0.175, 0.250, and 0.750
L. Check the displayed unit before saving.

## Prepare the wine stock item

1. Open **Stock → Stock items**, find the wine, or select **Add item**.
2. Check its **Unit of measure**. Use a supported volume unit when tracking
pours. Entering 175 against an item measured in bottles means 175 bottles.
3. Use **Variants → Add variant** for the physical bottle or case received.
Check the conversion shown in **Saved as** before confirming.
4. Complete an [opening count](/stock/counts) if the location has no recorded
quantity. Creating the item or pack does not establish stock on hand.

A receiving pack describes how stock arrives. It does not set how much each menu
choice uses. See [Stock items, units, and packs](/stock/items-and-packs).

## Set the quantity for each size

1. Open the wine's **Size** group. Check its required single-choice setup and
the sizes offered to staff and guests.
2. Select **Edit** beside the first size. Select **Set up stock** if the stock
   fields are not already shown.
3. Choose the matching **Stock item**. Enter **Amount per sale** in its
displayed unit. Verify the quantity yourself, including for a choice named
only “Bottle”; the name is not a saved stock rule.
4. Review **Option price** and **Use default price** separately from stock. They
control price, not the quantity taken from stock.
5. Select **Save option**. Reopen or inspect the row: it should show **Uses**,
the quantity, unit, and correct wine. **No stock deduction** means the choice
   has no link.
6. Repeat for every sellable size. Save any remaining group or parent-item
changes separately, and reopen the item to verify the group is attached.

If the editor says the choice is shared, name and stock changes affect the
listed items. To change one wine only, cancel and copy its group first. Do not
accept **Update the shared choice** unless that shared change is intended.

## Copy the sizes for another wine

Use **Copy group**, give it a clear name, and review **Take stock from**. **Use
another stock item** points the copied choices at the new wine; **Keep the same
stock links** retains the original wine, and **Copy without stock links** leaves
the copy without deductions. Check the displayed units and all resulting amounts
rather than assuming the copy converted them correctly.

The copy can be created with choices that still need stock linking by hand. Read
that result and repair those choices in the new group; do not create a second
copy after an uncertain or partial result. Verify the new group is attached to
the intended wine, then check every row.

## Use a recipe for several ingredients

A simple wine link represents one stock item per sale. If the choice shows
**Uses a recipe · edit in Stock and cost**, keep its full recipe and inspect
**View recipe** or the choice item's **Stock and cost** tab.

For a new multi-ingredient size:

1. Create its recipe under **Stock → Recipes**, with **Yield 1** for one sold
glass or bottle. Add the correct wine amount and any other ingredients.
2. Open the corresponding choice item's **Stock and cost** tab. Select **Recipe
→ Link an existing recipe**, and attach the recipe for that exact size. If
replacing a simple link, inspect it and unlink it deliberately first.
3. Reopen the choice and verify its linked recipe and ingredients. Creating a
recipe alone does not attach it to a sale choice.

Keep the parent wine item unlinked to the same wine stock when the sizes already
account for it. If TablePort refuses a duplicate deduction, inspect the parent
and choices; do not work around the refusal with another stock item.

## Check before service

- Every sellable size uses the right wine, quantity, and unit, or the intended
full recipe. Two glasses should use twice the single-glass amount.
- No shared choice accidentally takes wine from another product.
- The group is attached and any separate item/group drafts are saved.
- A zero cost is investigated separately: missing recorded stock cost can
produce zero even when a stock link exists.

After an uncertain save, reopen the same option before repeating it. If the
stock unit cannot load or permission is missing, resolve that first. Escalate
with the wine, choice, location, observed unit and quantity, and exact error;
exclude guest details and credentials.

[Recipes](/stock/recipes).
